Minnesota Twins Target Field

Gephart provided Design/Assist services for the construction of Minnesota Twins Target Field, the new home of Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins. This 40,000-seat baseball stadium is the crown jewel construction project in the state of Minnesota and Gephart won the job among fierce competition from the best of the best in the commercial contracting industry.

Because of the extraordinarily tight site – it is built over a major railway and freeway and between existing bridge overpasses – upon which the stadium is constructed, Gephart’s early planning and design/assist capabilities were essential to the success of the project. It was also clear to us even as we bid the project that it would take our very best field personnel and senior management staff. This was a commitment we made and kept much to the pleasure of the general contractor and the owner.

The Gephart team hit the ground running with early design input and cost savings suggestions which eventually led to the owner saving in excess of $3,000,000.

We also took very seriously the Targeted Business Goals for the project, encouraging and facilitating the participation of Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (Small, Women and Minority Owned Companies) suppliers and subcontractors amounting to more than 47% of our base contract value, exceeding the overall project goal of 45% which Gephart was able to exceed by 3.4%. In addition, we provided in excess of 27% minority and 7% female labor participation again surpassing the overall project goals of 25% and 5%.

In the end, what everyone on the job is most proud of is the stadium itself. After installing 141 exterior light poles, 742 sports & housekeeping fixtures, over 5,000 power receptacles, over 14,000 general lighting fixtures, 13,000 LF of 15 KV high voltage cable and 3,000,000 LF of branch circuit wire, we are pleased to have built both a beautiful ballpark and relationships of trust and commitment with the other trades on the job.

Through collaboration and commitment, we received a Certificate of Occupancy and substantial completion in December of 2009, two months ahead of schedule.

"“Gephart Electric competed for the Twins Ballpark Project as an underdog. They represented to Mortenson and the Minnesota Twins that they had the capability and expertise to assist with the completion of the design, provide cost savings ideas and manage the construction of a large and very complicated project. They committed their most senior resources and made personal commitments that the project would be a success. The project turned out to be more complicated than any of us anticipated and yet they managed to exceed our expectations. Mortenson and Gephart have built a relationship of trust and commitment and we look forward to working together on many future projects.”"
