Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi
Building on our success from three previous Baptist Memorial Hospital projects, Gephart was hired by our trusted client Robins & Morton to build this six-floor, 580,000 SF greenfield hospital building with 217 patient beds, 10 operating rooms (including the country’s first FDA-approved Siemens ARTIS pheno hybrid operating room), five imaging rooms, an Emergency Department, an ambulance garage, and a central plant. Based on our success during the construction of the hospital, Gephart was also selected to concurrently construct the adjacent 80,050 SF medical office building – Baptist Memorial Medical Plaza I.
The project was fast-track, design-assist and included heavy pre-construction services. Gephart was awarded the project just prior to the design-development issuance of drawings. Our team was able to provide multiple Target Cost Alignment ideas that were accepted and incorporated to ultimately deliver over $2 million in cost savings.
Gephart relied heavily on our bench strength and ability to man the project with over 115 skilled electrical workers in a remote locale with a very difficult labor market. In total, the team installed 200 miles of conduit, 1,000 miles of wire, 6,720 light fixtures, and 12,000 wiring devices – and did it all while meeting the project’s ambitious completion date.
Another factor contributing to the success of the project was our wide-ranging prefabrication strategy. We incorporated a blend of on-site prefabrication, off-site prefabrication and the use of manufactured prefabricated components. In total, we prefabricated 193 headwall assemblies at the on-site, multi-trade prefabrication shop; we prefabricated conduit hanger racks and other support assemblies at Gephart’s state-of-the-art prefabrication shop; and we purchased manufactured prefabricated components such as wall box assemblies from the marketplace. Taken together, these initiatives saved the project time and money, improved quality control and safety, and were critical in our ability to overcome a very difficult labor market and fast-track schedule.
Gephart provided a dedicated close-out team to drive the punchlist to zero and to work in concert with the commissioning agent. Together, we assured the design intent was met in full and proved the complete functionality of all building systems to the satisfaction of the Owner. And, because of our customer-first approach, Gephart continues to have a presence on campus handling all of Baptist’s ongoing needs for moves, additions and changes as the user group settles in and fine tunes their work spaces.

"Gephart Electric is… an excellent team player and was instrumental early in the BIM modeling and prefabrication which transitioned to expediting in-wall activities and minimizing problems. Their temporary electric service for the project utilizing E-Carts and spider boxes was the best I have ever experienced. We had our client and Electrical Engineer compliment how well the overhead conduit racks were installed in an organized professional manner. We are eager and ready to work with them again."
