The Guest House at Graceland

Gephart provided design-assist services for the construction of a new 450-room hotel adjacent to the Graceland Mansion. This AAA Four Diamond hotel features two restaurants, spaces for meetings and special events, and a 500-seat theater for live performances and movies. It is the largest hotel built in the Memphis area in the last 90 years and celebrates Elvis Presley and his lasting legacy.

Gephart created a dedicated logistics crew to make sure that all of our tools and materials were mobile and always within 30 feet or 30 seconds of the installing electricians on this fast-track project. We maximized the use of prefabrication with a combination of manufactured and built-on-site assemblies to improve the schedule, safety and quality. Most significantly, the prefabrication of the hotel guest room branch wiring system was crucial to maintaining the tight schedule and budget. We pushed technology into the field making sure that our supervisors had up-to-date and current information on their iPads and DataVaults to ensure that we do the work right the first time. Also, through Gephart’s preconstruction planning, the cost of the lighting fixture package was cut in half providing a substantial savings while maintaining the integrity and intent of the original design.

The Gephart team worked efficiently with customized solutions including UL listed E-carts for temporary power distribution and lockable mobile material cages for wiremen to request additional materials and keep track of current inventory. In total, the Guest House features 81 miles of installed wire, 5,834 light fixtures, and over 3,000 feet of linear cove lighting. Additionally, the entire property is on a backup generator to ensure no electrical disruptions.

The sprawling greenfield site, 16-month fast-track pace, and simultaneous construction of the three hotel towers created logistical challenges. Gephart assembled an experienced and talented on-site management team that overcame these challenges through careful planning and implementation of best practices. As a result, Gephart successfully completed this uniquely-Elvis inspired project on-time and on-budget.
