Fairview Southdale Perioperative Addition & Renovation

THE PROJECT

Gephart was hired by Fairview Southdale Hospital, in Edina, Minnesota, to renovate and rebuild 19 operating rooms and staff support areas, as well as replace the entire 13.8 KV switchgear and feeders, without interrupting the hospital’s services.

OUR PLANNING

Due to our previous experience and success with other projects within the facility, we knew the importance of maintaining hospital operations and not disturbing the hospital’s patients for the duration of the project. We planned carefully and took every step to ensure the project went smoothly and without disruptions, including coordinating outages to help the hospital maintain their patient focus. We understood that outages and interruptions would be more than inconvenient, they would be dangerous to the health and safety of the hospital’s patients.

OUR WORK

We removed and rebuilt eight operating rooms that were part of the hospital’s existing structure and renovated an additional 11 operating rooms. We also removed and replaced the entire 13.8 KV switchgear and eight 13.8 KV feeders. During construction, we assisted in maintaining infection control in all work areas, sealing them off and utilizing portable HEPA filters. We also installed a state-of-the-art flywheel UPS system for emergency backup power to provide a seamless transition to generator power in the event of an outage.

SUCCESS

After 16 months, without interruption of the hospital’s services or a decrease in regular surgery loads, we successfully completed the project and are still there today providing service and maintenance.
